In the surroundings of a brilliant coffee event, Cup North | Manchester Coffee Festival, the 2017 UK Cup Tasters Championship has crowned a new National Champion. Despite a wrath of strong scores throughout the competition, Freda Yuan tasted her way to victory with a final score of seven in a time of 3:55 Completing the top three: Nicole Ferris with a score of five in a time of 4:11 & Will Sumner with four cups correct in 2:23 As always, our sponsors have made it all possible but never more than here at Cup North. Cup North returns for a third time but now under a new guise of Manchester Coffee Festival. Established by two coffee mad friends, we wanted to spread knowledge of speciality coffee in our hometown of Manchester. In just three short years, the festival has earned itself a reputation as a coffee event with a difference, founded on principles of engagement, sustainability, inclusivity, education and some healthy competition to round things off. We’re not big fans of boring trade shows where visitors amble from stand to stand to sample free tasters so we encourage all of our exhibitors to do something totally different, fun and educational on their stand. Some of the activities this year include a coffee acids tasting, flavour...

I must say that the event was absolutely fantastic. It was quite a different scene from the Barista Competitions that I have taken part in. What do I mean? The roasting championship felt extremely friendly, collective and...

After a gruelling few days of competition, within the excellent hospitality of Dear Green Coffee, the Roasting Championship has finally come to its conclusion. It is with great pleasure we can report that for the second year running, Matthew Robley-Siemonsma from Prufrock came out top with 531.53 and will be representing the UK in Guangzhou. Completing the top three respectively were; Edgars Juska from Prufrock 523.75 Bartosz Ciepaj from Molecular Coffee 523.25 Such a complex competition like this can not run well without the help and support from all the volunteers and organisers, but would not even go ahead without the help of our sponsors: Diedrich Roasters, Ikawa,...
