There will be 12 places at each of the 6 heats (72 places in total) allocated on a first come first served basis. There are some important changes to the heats this year, as we are moving to a more streamlined preliminary style format.
For the SCA UKBC 2019, we will be running six prelim style heats where competitors will be required to serve the espresso and milk beverage courses only.
The SCA UK will be awarding Heat Winner and Runner Up certificates for competitors of each of the regional heats.
The UKBC 2019 heats will follow the relevant 2018 WBC Rules and will be scored using the elements from the 2018 WBC score sheets relevant to the below drinks.
The format for each competitor presentation at the heats stage will be:
15 Minute Setup Time
7 Minute Competition Time to present:
2 Milk Beverages
5 Minute Clean-Up time
There will be:
2 Sensory Judges
1 Technical Judge
1 Head Judge
1 Technical Judge
1 Head Judge
Competitors will be allowed to use a coffee of their own choice; however, our roasted and green coffee sponsors; Grumpy Mule and Olam Specialty Europe, will also supply various options which competitors can choose from and use. Grumpy Mule/Olam will contact all competitors with further details. Supplies of crockery and equipment will be available at each heat if required by the competitors. Competitors may bring their own crockery and equipment is they wish.
The Semi-Finals and Finals rounds, planned for early March, will then take on the standard WBC format.
Important Changes to Competitor Registration
Apologies for the onerous nature of the following information, however, in our continued effort to make all the UK Coffee Championships as accessible as possible, we have also made some important changes to the way that entries can be purchased. Please read the following important conditions of entry carefully so as not to miss out on a UKBC place.
Entries are not transferable and not automatically refundable.
When purchasing the entry you MUST include the Competitors full name who will actually be competing. If the named person is unable to compete, that place will be offered to the next person on the waiting list by the SCA UK. It is not transferable by the original purchaser. A refund will only be offered if the SCA UK are able to fill the place.
Only one entry into the 2019 UKBC is allowed per competitor. If more than one entry is purchased and registered to the same competitor, only the first date will be valid, and any subsequent places will be released to the waiting list or put on general sale by the SCA UK.
SCA Membership is mandatory for all competitors - Please ensure you have your membership number ready to enter when adding this to your shopping cart. Without it, you will not be able to complete the purchase.
Strictly one entry per person per transaction - You will not be able to check out if you have more than one registration in your cart.
